Launchpad & teams

“Launchpad is a collection of services for products in the open source universe”, a powerful tool that helps the Ubuntu community and its release cycle (bug management, specifications, sprints, etc).

I’ve some questions about LP:

1. What are the benefits to use Launchpad?

2. What’s the idea to use Launchpad for teams management? ATM I’m only can approve members, create polls… For example, I need to contact (email) all members but I can’t do it :-(

A good idea would be if someone can teach to teams administrators how improve the LP use.

Thanks for your comments,

A LP user :-)

For the period when I thought I could participate in the ubuntu community, I had a chance to see LP from a user’s perspective. Niggles aside, the only reason I see for using it is that Canonical made it and therefore ubuntu will use it to show that it is a system worth paying money for.

    So, no good reasons.

    Hi Miguel

Well, the teams are very very useful for bug management, spec tracking, translations, projects/products management…

You can assign a team to be the bug manager for a product, and then that team can change the importance and the milestones for bugs. You can set a team to be able to translate one product, or ubuntu, in one or more languages…

These are just a few tips for the LP Teams. I hope this is helpful for you ;)

    Best regards
    Pochu

Teams in Launchpad exist mainly to provide groups of people in various roles in the main Launchpad applications — bugtracking, translations, specification writing, etc.

By themselves, the main uses for teams are keeping track of membership (like Loco teams do) and holding polls.

We are considering ways of incorporating mailing lists into Launchpad.

Next time you have a question about Launchpad, try asking directly, and hopefully you’ll get a quicker answer. :-)
